Evolutionary Thought

“Rethinking Autism” is an online presentation I prepared for Dr. François Nielsen’s class on Evolutionary Sociology at UNC Chapel Hill. In it I cover the definition and current understanding of autism, as well as introduce and examine what is now known as the Autism Spectrum, including Asperger’s disorder. I discuss the increasingly narrow standard of behavior and function regarded as normal, and attempt to re-examine autism through an evolutionary perspective.

I have tried to be thorough (although far from exhaustive) in my examination of the current knowledge of autism, and hope it is informative and helpful to those whose lives are touched by it. If after listening you have any further questions, please email me. I would be happy to hear them.

Hello, and welcome to my new site, “Evolutionary Thought.” I wasn’t actually prepared at all to launch this site yet, but I needed a place online to post my presentation for the class I’m taking at UNC-CH Department of Sociology. The class, “Evolutionary Sociology,” has been provocative and challenging, so I hope Professor François Nielsen will be able to organize additional classes in this important subject. As it stands, there are really only a small handful of classes at UNC Chapel Hill that are relevant to my interests in evolutiona nd human behavior, and I have been glad to be part of this one.

I have lots of ideas for how this site itself could potentially evolve. We’ll see what time permits?
